ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia residents will now be allowed to list their blood type on their driver's license or identification card.

Department of Driver Services officials said in a statement Thursday that the new optional listing is an emergency preparedness effort.

Gov. Nathan Deal says emergency responders need up-to-date health information in emergency situations, and listing blood type on a driver's license or identification card is an example of the state's commitment to driver safety.
