LITHONIA, Ga. (AP) — Police in metro Atlanta say a store employee shot and killed an armed man trying to rob him at gunpoint.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://on-ajc.com/1IkjTKf ) the would-be robber was slain Thursday afternoon at the Paradise Island Smoke Shop near Lithonia.

DeKalb County police Capt. Steven Fore says two men entered the store and asked the worker to see an item on a shelf behind him. The employee told police that when he turned around, one of the men put a shotgun to his head.

Fore said the worker turned around slowly and grabbed the shotgun barrel before drawing his own gun and firing several shots.

The robbery suspect died at the scene. The other man fled but later turned himself in to police. Neither suspect's name has been released.
