ATLANTA (AP) — Authorities say a man has been struck and killed by a commuter train at a downtown station.

MARTA officials say the person was struck shortly before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday near the Georgia State University station.

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority spokesman Lyle Harris told reporters that the person was in an unauthorized area when the collision occurred. WSB-TV reports that the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office said the person was a man, and that he had died from his injuries. His identity was not immediately released.

MARTA said in a statement that trains were not stopping at the Georgia State station after the wreck as police investigated the accident, and that passengers should expect some delays. The system said it was using buses to help transport some passengers.
