WINDER, Ga. (AP) — Authorities in northeast Georgia are investigating a gunshot that wounded a 9-year-old girl.
Barrow County sheriff's deputies tell WSB-TV (http://bit.ly/1NB8plh) that the shooting near U.S. 82 and Giles Road on Monday afternoon appeared accidental, and that no charges have been filed.
Deputies said relatives told them the girl was shot while someone was cleaning his gun.
Barrow County sheriff's spokesman Matthew Guthas said investigators were trying to determine whether evidence at the scene matches the accounts given by witnesses.
The girl was flown by helicopter to a hospital. There was no word on her condition early Tuesday.
