ATLANTA (AP) — State labor officials say Georgia's unemployment rate has dropped to 6.4 percent, its lowest level since July 2008.

The Georgia Department of Labor on Thursday announced the new seasonally adjusted jobless rate for January.

The rate was down from a revised 6.6 percent in December and 7.3 percent in January 2014.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said it was the seventh consecutive month that the rate declined.
