DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — DeKalb County prosecutors say two brothers convicted of swindling senior citizens in a roofing scam have been given 20-year sentences.
District Attorney's spokesman Erik Burton said in a statement that Keith and Jeffrey Ogles solicited four elderly people for roofing work and severely overcharged for their services.
Burton says one victim was threatened when he refused to continue making payments and another with short-term memory loss was asked to pay multiple times for the same work. Officials say the woman paid the pair more than $40,000 for work that was valued at less than $1,500 and the work had been done incorrectly.
Burton says the men have been sentenced to 20 years with 10 to serve in custody and are ordered to pay $100,000 in restitution.
