DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — Police say a suspect who at times during a standoff in southern DeKalb County fired on officers and civilians has been killed.

Capt. Stephen Fore says DeKalb County police received a 911 call around 9 p.m. Sunday reporting an armed, suicidal male alone inside a home in a subdivision.

Fore says the man fired at responding officers and at neighbors who were being evacuated from their homes. No one was injured.

A SWAT team arrived and attempted negotiations. Fore says the suspect fired on SWAT officers, who returned fire.

Interim Chief of Police James Conroy said officers believe the suspect was struck by one of the SWAT members.

Officers made entry around 1 a.m. Monday and found the suspect dead.

The suspect wasn't immediately identified, pending notification of family.
