WASHINGTON, D.C — Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) announced that he hired Jacqui Kappler as his new Legislative Director.

Kappler replaces Arya Hariharan, who recently accepted a position as Democratic Counsel at House Judiciary Committee.

“I’m pleased and excited that Jacqui is joining us as Legislative Director,” Johnson said. “She brings a wealth of talent, expertise and a passion for policy that will be an asset not only to our Washington, D.C. office but, Georgia’s Fourth District as well.”

Kappler, a 2008 graduate of Albright College in Reading, PA and 2012 graduate of the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America, began her Washington, D.C. career as counsel at the American Association for Justice.

The American Association for Justice works to ensure people have a fair chance to receive justice through the legal system when they are injured by the negligence or misconduct of others — even when it means taking on the most powerful corporations.

“Congressman Johnson has the reputation as a serious, substantive legislator who offers legislation to hold the powerful accountable, so I’m very excited to be now heading his legislative efforts” Kappler said. “I look forward to my new role assisting the Congressman to pursue legislation that protects and champions the health, safety and welfare of constituents and all Americans.”

As ranking member of the Judiciary’s Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet, Johnson said he is pleased Kappler brings a wealth of knowledge dealing with intellectual property, public policy and the courts.

Kappler’s first day in Johnson’s office was Feb. 26.
