The Social Circle American Legion Post 332 conducted a flag retirement ceremony at the Mews Center Saturday morning to coincide with National Flag Day.
Section 8(k) of the U.S. Flag Code specifies that when a flag is no longer fit for display it should be destroyed in a dignified way, which is usually by burning.
American Legion members and Social Circle residents gathered as flags were retired into a fire by Post 332 Commander Wayne Harrington, Rev. Paul Best, Ken Kitchens and Winfred Powell.
