SPLOST projects discussed at meeting

The county commissioners met Monday night to discuss the 2005 and 2011 SPLOST projects.

During the meeting, the commissioners reviewed the policies and procedures for SPLOST money allocation, and formed committees to investigate each of the 2011 SPLOST projects to determine when they would be ready to proceed.

Each group was composed of members of the board and expert community members relevant to the project. For instance, several farmers have been placed on the committee for the animal  committee for the animal control facility.

The committees are expected to be approved at the Aug. 16 Board of Commissioners meeting.

2005 SPLOST Projects

The 2005 SPLOST was also reviewed at Monday’s meeting.

The Civic Center, which does not presently have the funding to begin construction, was placed on hold for five years, and the Porterdale Gym is currently held in escrow, but Morgan stated that if the city is able to come up with their portion of the funding, the SPLOST could begin construction.
