The Society of St. Vincent de Paul members hosted their second Silent Auction and Wine Tasting (Fox Vineyards) this past Friday evening. Sherry Odum's selection of hors d'oeurvres complimented the wines along with Wing Zone's zesty wings. The guests were greeted by Peggy Mercer and Nancy East. Inside Moore Hall of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Michael Frederick played music while the guests helped themselves to the Fox Vineyards' wines and the hors d'oeurvres which included great flavors as stuffed dates, blueberry brie puffs, chicken ‘n cranberry salad spread, spanakopita, various cheeses and crackers - just to mention a few along with spiced wings.

The bidding began at 7 p.m. and continued until 9:30 p.m. when the auction officials highlighted the final bids. All of the SVDP members present acted as the auction officials and cashiers along with some St. Augustine parishioners.

As most silent auctions go, this one was the same as people hovered over various items ready to place their higher bid the moment after someone else bid. One guest actually followed me around as I placed various bids only for her to bid higher after I moved along.

Auction items included services (lawyer, CPA, guide for horseback riding, etc.), car needs (set of four tires, oil changes, car care items, etc.), items of great use (scaffold, Milwaukee 8 and a half inch circular saw, lamps, handmade marble inlaid tables, Honey Creek Woodlands plot, etc.), restaurant gift cards (Frank's, Longhorns, Outback, Red Lobster, Mary Macs, Lenox Square Bar & Grill, El Charro, Pachos, Blimpie, Mama Maria's, etc.), excursions (two nights at Glenn Hotel-Atlanta, Biltmore House, Stone Mountain, Sherwood Forest Miniature Golf, Bingo, etc.), beautifully filled baskets of Merle Norman Cosmetics, Cathedral Lantern, flowers, Willow House, Irene Smith's "sassy" books, scrapbooking supplies, and also oil paintings, Party-Lite Lantern and unusual candle, Proof Coin Sets, and so much more. Several parishioners donated handmade items for the auction, exposing their hidden talents.
