A man wanted in Walton County was found sitting in a Newton County neighborhood early Tuesday morning.

Officers responding to another incident noticed that a vehicle with its lights on was sitting in the entrance to Wellington Ridge.

When officers came back past the entrance again, the car was still there, so they turned on their emergency lights and went to check on the vehicle’s occupant.

The driver, identified as Reko Rashad Smith, reportedly told officers that he dropped his girlfriend off and then parked and must have fallen asleep. Officers reported that Smith seemed to be attempting to hide something in the console area of the vehicle.

They removed him from the vehicle before asking for permission to search it, which he reportedly gave.

Inside the vehicle, officers allegedly found a brown paper cigarette, several small bags of suspected marijuana, a black glove, ski mask and four cellphones.

They also learned that Smith was wanted in Walton County on charges of armed robbery, carjacking and aggravated assault.

He was arrested and taken to the Newton County Jail, where he was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

A fast break

Authorities were called to RaceWay Monday afternoon after an employee reportedly noticed a man shoplifting.

The employee told officers that she watched a black male take a Fast Break candy bar off the shelf and hide it in his pocket before leaving the store in an older model Nissan Altima.

The candy was valued at $1.69.

The employee told officers that the man was on video and she would share that with investigators.
