The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) is investigating a robbery that occurred in a home off Cooper road on Dec. 20.

According to a release from NCSO, two suspects broke into the home, robbed residents at gunpoint and then sexually assaulted one of the women living there.

The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is in the initial stages of discovering how the crimes occurred. CID is collecting statements from all witnesses and analyzing evidence form the scene.

“As with any comprehensive investigation, as more credible information comes to light, a clearer picture of what happened develops,” the release said. “The NCSO believes in releasing factual information in a timely manner. The investigation is ongoing and is not at a point yet where all information has come to light.”

Investigators said there is no pattern or commonality between this incident and past incidents.

Further accurate, factual information that is developed to help identify the suspects will be released to the news media by NCSO.
