ROME - Authorities say an employee working on a sewer line in the northwest Georgia town of Rome called police after making an unexpected discovery - a large Brinks safe in the sewer.

Police say the safe had been pried open, and officers could see credit cards and jewelry inside the box.

It wasn't known who the safe belongs to, and police said the items inside have been placed into evidence.

The Rome News-Tribune reports the discovery was made Saturday on Pheasant Run.
