Preparing for the harvest

Southern Heartland Arts Inc. announces the opening of Artful Harvest, the annual juried art exhibit sponsored by United Bank. This year’s show will be held at the Newton County Library, 7116 Floyd St., until Sept. 29. All Newton County artists are welcome and encouraged to exhibit, as are artists from throughout the state. Applications are available at Southern Heartland Art Gallery or online at www.southernheartlandart.com.

Prizes will be awarded in 2D and 3D categories, with a best in show prize of $500 to the overall winner. This year’s judge is Charles Young Walls, a well known Atlanta artist and instructor, who has acted as juror and judge for many art exhibits and organizations. His art may be viewed at www.charlesyoungwalls.com. The awards presentation and reception will be held at the library from 5 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16.

The exhibit is free and open for public view during library hours of operation. Art sold may be purchased through Southern Heartland Art Gallery on the square and picked up when the exhibit closes/ Southern Heartland Arts, Inc. is a nonprofit organization supporting the visual arts since 1988.
