Power has been restored to the 1,000 Newton County residents and businesses that lost power Wednesday around noon.

"The outages were pretty scattered. The largest section was a section on Browns Bridge Road from Turner Lake Road to River Road," said Bill Meecham, utility director.

Affected areas include Fairview Road, McGuirts Bridge Road, the Access Road along I-20, Puckett Street, Alcovy Trussell Roads, Briarpatch Road and on the north end of Flat Rock Road.

"Most of the major areas were back on by 5 p.m., but some lingered until 7 to 8 p.m.," said Meecham.
Meecham said most of the outages were due to trees pulling down power lines.

"The thing that was surprising to us was that Tuesday night, we didn't have any outages about all, but this started around lunch time when we had the heavy winds," Meecham said.

Covington Utilities workers are working today to clean up loose or low hanging wires and to restore power to homes that need to have electrical work done before the power can be restored. Residents who still do not have power and have completed any electrical work that needs to be done can call (770) 385-2000 or (770) 385-2049 to have their power restored.
