Power was been restored to downtown Covington around 1 p.m., after two power transformers blew and a primary line snapped off about an hour earlier.

Covington Utility Director Bill Meecham did not know the cause of the failure, but guessed the combination of recent storms and high temperatures might have damaged and weakened the infrastructure.
