A group of women whose smiles, uplifting spirits and devotion to other people's lives, gathers in the center of the square Friday. For the entire month of October, breast cancer survivors will have portraits in local boutiques around the Covington square, honoring those who were able to overcome the disease.

Six years ago, the program started out with 12 portraits of women, now exceeding more than 60. "Take everyday as a blessing, and be sure to tell everyone that you love, you love them. Everyday is a new blessing," said Kay Goff, breast cancer survivor and volunteer for the Hope Boutique at the Newton Medical Center.

The boutique was established by volunteers and the women's diagnostic staff at Newton Medical Center to help breast cancer patients with limited income, providing supplies needed during and after cancer treatment. Items available at the boutique include bras, prosthesis, wigs, turbans, hats and blankets.

Goff believes it is important for both men and women to be aware of their body, and to have annual mammograms. Making people aware is their mission, as well as honoring survivors and those who are still battling breast cancer today. Along with the concert on Sunday, they will follow up with a fashion show Oct. 9.

Tickets are $10, available at the gift shop at the hospital in the women's center. It will include a luncheon, and entertainment. All models will be modeling items from the Cinderella shop, a shop that supports the hospital's auxiliary.
