This summer, young artist have the opportunity to learn fine art skills that could last them a lifetime. Southern Heartland Art Gallery is offering its last summer art camp on July 16-19 for participants ages 6 through 12.

Ann Wildmon, Camp Director and one of the 18 artists working at the gallery, said these promising young artists will learn different fine art techniques. Campers will not be occupied with simple crafts involving macaroni and glue.

They will participate in painting, drawing, clay, wire art and collage. They will also learn about Pop Art, and have the opportunity to use charcoal.

"We are exposing the kids to actual artistic media," said Wildmon.

The camp is filled on a first come, first served basis and there are still spots available for next week's camp. The camps have been a success this summer, according to Wildmon.

The summer art camp costs $165 for the four days; however, for families with more than one child, there is a 15 percent discount off the tuition for each additional child.

Southern Heartland Art Gallery also offers workshops and will host private parties for adults.

Southern Heartland Art Gallery is located at 1132 Monticello Street in Covington. For more information about the camp and other art classes visit southernheartlandart.com or call (770) 788-8799.
