Oxford native dies after soccer game at Georgia Southern

lexander Scott Pace, a 20-year-old Oxford resident, died Oct. 27, following an intramural soccer game at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, where he was a student.

According to a blog from the college, Pace came out of the intramural game and complained of feeling ill, collapsing soon after. He was transported to East Georgia Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. The cause of death is still unknown.

Pace was a junior at Georgia Southern, working on a degree in Information Technology Security. According to the obituary, he was active in Pittman Park United Methodist Church, Student in Free Union Enterprise, intramural soccer and flag football. He graduated from Newton High School, where he played soccer and was the ad manager for the school newspaper, the RamPage. Growing up, he was a member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church in Oxford and was active in the youth group.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. today at Allen Memorial Methodist, 803 Whatcoat St., Oxford. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the church’s youth fund.
