A good cause: 11 Alive's (WXIX TV) 36th annual Community Service Awards honored 10 recipients for 2011. Among those were Operation Sandbox. The award was presented to Virginia Pearson, cofounder of the organization. The award is presented for outstanding local volunteers who have demonstrated selfless devotion for the betterment of the community. She was escorted by reporter Bill Liss who served in the Air Force, and Ga. Army National Guard Col. Andy Hall. Approximately 500 people were in attendance. Seats for the event were $300 each. Proceeds from the night's event went to Emory's Alzheimer's research. Approximately$150,000 was raised for research.
