A Newton County woman died Saturday after the motorcycle on which she was riding was struck by a car on Salem Road.

Dianne K. Hickly, 64, was killed and her husband, Robert E. Hickly, 68, was seriously injured when their 2007 Honda Goldwing motorcycle was hit by a 1998 Buick LeSabre driven by Kathy L. Nolan, 47, of Covington, said Lt. Paul Cosper of the Georgia State Patrol on Tuesday.

Robert Hickly, who was driving, was taken to Walton Regional Medical Center; Cosper had no update on his status.

Nolan's car left a shopping center near the Kirkland Road intersection when it hit the ride side of the Hickly's motorcycle about 7:30 p.m., throwing the Hicklys off the motorcycle, according to Cosper.

Cosper said any charges are still pending while Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team investigates the crash. Possible charges could be vehicular homicide in the first or second degree.

There have been nine fatalities in Newton County so far this year. There were 13 fatalities in 2010.
