One man was injured late Tuesday afternoon when a tractor trailer veered off Highway 81 into a ditch, the Sheriff’s Office said.

 The driver of the tractor trailer was transported to Walton Regional Medical Center for treatment after the crash. Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash, though details have not yet been made available.

 After 4 p.m. Tuesday, the tractor trailer, driving north on Highway 81 drifted to the right off the roadway. Deep fresh tracks indicated that the rig was inches from sliding down a deep bank into a creek. The truck swerved to the left and plowed into another ditch on the other side of the road, striking a utility pole.

 Residents near the crash said their telephone service was out.

 No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Highway 81 was closed from about 4 until after 6 p.m. while a wrecker pulled the rig and trailer out of the ditch.
