Investigators have made one arrest in the Jan. 27 shooting at a birthday party in The Silos subdivision.

Dandre Knowles, 21, was arrested in Miami, Fla., Wednesday and charged with six counts of aggravated assault, six counts of cruelty to children and one count of criminal damage to property.

Knowles lived in The Silos at one time but has since moved to Miami, according to Newton County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Cortney Morrison. Roughly 30 minutes after the warrants for Knowles were put into the Georgia Crime Information Center, he was stopped for a traffic infraction in Miami. When they ran his information, the warrants from Newton County showed up and he was arrested. The NCSO will be starting the extradition process as soon as possible to bring him back to Newton County.

The charges against Knowles stem from two people being shot while attending a birthday party in The Silos.

According to previous stories, the party was crashed by uninvited men. Although there was no immediate issue, some guests have told investigators that a verbal altercation ensued between the party crashers and the guests at the party. Shortly thereafter the shooting occurred. A female guest was shot in the leg and a security guard hired for the party was shot in the arm.

“This case is by no means closed,” said Morrison. “It is still very much under investigation, but as of right now, no other warrants have been issued for anyone else.”

The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the NCSO at 678-625-1400 or online at newtonsheriffga.org.
