Hand carved cars:
Cub Scouts, family, friends and leaders filled Prospect United Methodist Church’s gym Saturday to race and cheer on cars of all shapes and colors in the annual Pinewood Derby race. The excitement was evident as the competing Tiger Cubs, Wolves, Bears and Webelos were announced one by one and ran into the race area to sit and watch their homemade car zoom down the track and across the finish line.

After six heats for each Cub Scout rank, the car with the fastest average was announced and first, second and third place trophies were awarded to the Tiger Cub, Wolf, Bear and Webelos racers. After all cars had competed, the fastest three cars for each Cub Scout rank raced again for Grand Champion first, second and third place trophies.

Speed wasn’t the only competing factor, however. Trophies were also awarded for best design in each rank.
