For the second consecutive year, the Newton High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC battalion has placed first at the Rockdale County School System's three MCJROTC programs - Heritage, Salem and Rockdale.

Held at the Earl O'Neal Sports Complex, cadets in the physical competition participated in events including the 4x440 Relay, Sandbag Carry Relay, Tire Toss and Push-Up Relay.

Newton finished first for the second consecutive year in this annual athletic meet, said Rawley Coleman, Chief Warrant Officer - 4. "Our cadets represented the program; this year, the entire battalion of cadets was present and instrumental in representing the program.

The MCJROTC continues to be a dominant presence at Newton High and around the community, said Craig Lockhart, Principal of NHS. "This program is another example of the high expectations that are conveyed to Newton High students. We appreciate the talents of MCJROTC faculty, staff and cadets."
