Four Newton County teens from were arrested in connection with the March 27 assault and robbery of a student in the Heritage High School parking lot and deputies are on the lookout for a fifth teen.
Investigators with the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office were assisted in identifying several suspects in the case with the help of an anonymous tip generated from social media. After investigating the leads, RCSO investigators were able to secure two arrest warrants.
One of the suspects, Cynteria Langhorne, 17, of Oxford, was located in Newton County on April 17. She was taken into custody without incident and charged with being party to a crime. The second suspect, Paul Taylor, also 17 and of Oxford, turned himself into the Rockdale County Jail after learning he had a warrant for his arrest and was charged with robbery. Both were released after two days.
A-16-year-old male juvenile was also arrested for being party to a crime and is being held in a Juvenile Detention Facility. Another 16-year-old male juvenile has been charged and the RCSO is currently searching for him. The 16-year-olds are from Covington.
In the March 27 incident, an 18-year-old male was leaving a school function arond 8:50 p.m. when he was approached in the parking lot by a white SUV and a black SUV occupied by young males and a female.
A black male with a grey hoodie and black baseball cap came out of the white SUV and asked to use his cell phone. The 18-year-old said his phone was dead. Five occupants of the black SUV then got out of the car. One of them punched the 18-year-old in the face and knocked him to the ground. The suspects then went through his pockets, taking his cell phone.
