Newton County Schools will close for all students and staff Wednesday and Thursday.

"Due to the forecast for severe inclement weather, all Newton County Schools will be closed for both students and staff on Wednesday, February 12 and Thursday, February 13. Decisions for closings beyond Thursday will be made after a weather briefing takes place Thursday afternoon," school system spokeswoman Sherri Davis-Viniard said in an email.

"Next week’s Winter Break will continue as planned. Information on student make-up days will be provided at a later date. Please stay safe," Davis-Viniard said.

The Newton County Board of Education also canceled its 7 p.m. meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday night.
