Newton man stabbed in home

Deputies are searching for a man who broke into a home early Friday and stabbed the homeowner before fleeing.

The incident occurred on Waterford Road after the assailant had kicked-in the door, according to a report.

The victim told officers that the man who broke into the home was a black male in dark clothing who had a dark covering over his face. He was also brandishing a pistol. The victim confronted the robber in the hallway of the home and a scuffle ensued. The homeowner sustained minor cuts to the right side of the head and above his right eye, according to Newton County Sheriff's 1st Lt. Mark Mitchell.

The assailant fled and could not be found when deputies arrived.
