NCSO identifies, arrests murder suspect

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has arrested a suspect in the murder in Julien R. Wyant, according to a press release Monday.

CID, Warrant Division and U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Task Force arrested Nathaniel L. Barnes, 25, during a traffic stop on July 15 and identified him as the suspect in Wyant’s murder.

Wyant, 24, of Conyers was found dead on July 4 at the Orchard Cove Apartment Complex, 403 Gross Lake Parkway in Covington after deputies were dispatched to the area in response to reports of a person shot.

According to the NCSO, Barnes has been charged with murder. Other charges are pending.
