A woman was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday evening while waiting to pick her child up from school outside Fairview Elementary.

According to 1st Lt. Mark Mitchell with the Newton County Sheriff’s Department, a woman was parked in her vehicle behind Fairview Elementary School waiting to pick up her child just before 8 p.m.

While she sat there she reportedly told deputies that she was approached by a young black male, between 16-17-years-old, wearing blue jeans and a black and blue jacket over his hoodie. The youth also was thinly built, according to the victim.

She told deputies that he came out from behind the trailers that are located behind the school with a bandana on his face and walked to her truck, allegedly pointed a silver handgun at her and demanded money.

The woman reportedly complied and the man ran off with approximately $23. Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate any sign of the youth or evidence.
