Several more entering auto calls have been received at the Covington Police Department.

Capt. Ken Malcom said there have been around 10 calls about an unknown person breaking into cars in the area of Taylor Street and Jefferson Village. He said the break-ins are similar to the ones that happened about a month ago.

"We’re not saying it’s the same people, but we will say that they are very similar to the break-ins that we have had, with a series of vehicles that were left unlocked," Malcom said.

According to reports, a man on Jefferson Village Boulevard reported around 7 a.m. Wednesday that his 2005 Nissan Armanda was left unlocked, and his black Compaq laptop computer was taken.

Just up the street around 11:30 a.m. that day, a woman at another Jefferson Village home said her 2007 Chevrolet Malibu, which was left unlocked, was entered. A starter checkbook and Social Security card were taken.

At a Chaney Drive residence, a woman said someone entered her unlocked 2004 Dodge Durango, and stole her Hisense Sero 7 Lite Tablet.

"We are encouraging people, again, to please lock their cars," Malcom said. "If they see anything suspicious in the middle of the night or anyone lurking around their home, to please call 9-1-1 and get us out there."

In January, nearly 50 car break-ins were reported to the Covington Police Department at a number of residences in the area of Old Monticello and Monticello streets. Personal items were stolen from vehicles left unlocked. Victims at homes on Pinecrest Drive, Monticello Street, Old Monticello Street, Woodland Avenue, Legion Drive, King Street, Town Branch Court, Dorchester Drive, Brookhaven Drive and several other streets within the city limits reported their vehicles were entered.

Items reportedly stolen included cash, checkbooks, electronics, sunglasses and car owner’s manuals. However, in some cases, victims reported their cars were only rummaged through and nothing was missing. According to reports, many items were found just houses away.
