Gas prices fell by 8.7 cents in the Covington area last week, and, according to AtlantaGasPrices.com, prices in Covington range from $3.69 per gallon to $3.79 per gallon.

Atlanta's prices are 32 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 8.1 cents higher than a month ago.

Nationally, prices actually increased by 2.3 cents per gallon to $3.86 per gallon. The national average has increased 15.8 cents per gallon during the last month, but stands 24.9 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago, according to GasBuddy.com.

"If Americans were paying prices that we saw in late fall 2008 when prices dropped under $2/gal, they'd be saving more than $20-$35 per fill up, which, on a yearly basis would add up to more than $1,000 in savings yearly," said Gasbuddy.com senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHann. "Gasoline prices are expected to fall from their current levels, but it may be late-September or early-October before notable relief is felt."
