Man severely burned in house fire

At approximately 7:15 p.m. Newton County Fire received a call for a house fire on Ga. Highway 36 across from Campbell Road.

According to NCFD Chief Mike Satterfield, an engine reported back by 7:20 p.m. Firefighters who entered the home were able to find a man lying in the kitchen area of the home and drag him to safety. EMTs on the scene were able to open an airway and stabilize the man for transport to Grady Medical Center. Satterfield said the man was burned over a significant portion of his body.

According to NCFD Captain Robert Thomas the victim was still alive as of 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. He also confirmed that the fire did not start in the kitchen as was reported earlier. He could not give more details of the fire as the investigation is still ongoing. 

No official cause has been released by the investigation squad.
