A Newton County man has been sentenced to 30 days in jail in connection with the death last year of a 6-year-old after the child was struck by his SUV.

Gregory Armwood, 45, was driving in DeKalb County and reportedly swerved around a MARTA bus making a stop, crossing a double yellow line on the wrong side of the road, and striking Suk Maya Mager. The child had recently relocated with her family to Georgia from Nepal.

Armwood on Wednesday pleaded guilty to misdemeanor vehicular homicide in DeKalb State Court. He admitted to passing the stopped bus and hitting the child.

He was sentenced to spend 30 days in jail and 12 months probation. His license will also be suspended for 12 months.
