A man reportedly entered a hotel office and got away with more than $4,000 in cash.

An officer with the Covington Police Department responded to a call at the Covington Lodge, 9169 City Pond Road, in reference to a theft Friday around 8:30 p.m.

The officer spoke with a hotel manager, who said he left the front office unattended and locked for approximately five to 10 minutes while he checked around the property. When the hotel manager returned, he saw that the front door had been forced open and that all the cash in the money drawer, about $4,800, had been taken.

According to the report, the officer viewed surveillance video footage during the time the incident occurred. The footage reportedly showed a man, reportedly wearing gray shoes, khaki pants and a dark hoodie and a cloth/fabric covering his face — entered the office, jumped over the counter and walked over to the money counter, then jump back over the counter and left the office.

The front parking lot camera reportedly showed the man approaching from the driveway area of the business to the front parking lot, where he checked around for witnesses before going into the front office. After talking with several people at the hotel, the officer identified a possible suspect. However, during a search of the area, the man could not be located. The case is still under investigation.

Elderly woman’s leg reportedly injured

A man reported to police that his elderly mother’s leg was injured by an employee at a nursing home.

A Covington police officer responded to Newton Medical Center in reference to a call about allged elder abuse around 6:30 p.m. Sunday and spoke with a man who said his mother was recently admitted to the hospital with a leg injury.

The man told the officer that his mother, who was a resident of Covington Manor, sustained two breaks in her lower left leg. He reportedly said the injury happened when a certified nursing assistant improperly used a Hoyer Lift to move his mother. He told the officer that the injury was not reported by the CNA.

According to the report, the man’s wife, who works at Covington Manor part-time, said that around 7 a.m. Sunday morning, another nurse noticed the severe swelling and bruising of her mother-in-law’s left leg. That nurse then reportedly made the man’s wife aware of the injury.

The man reportedly had complained to the director of the facility and he told the officer that the CNA had been terminated. In addition, the couple noted to the officer that they had photos of the woman’s injuries prior to her treatment.
