Man faces charges in Sat. single car wreck

The driver involved in a single-car accident Saturday evening, remains in the Intensive Care Unit at Atlanta Medical Center. 

James Mercer Collins, 35, was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center after losing control of his 2008 Dodge Ram on Old Atlanta Highway, just behind LongHorn Steakhouse, and striking two trees around 5 p.m. Saturday.

According to Franka Young, with the Georgia State Patrol’s Public Information Office, Collins was attempting to negotiate a curve when his truck left the road and went into a ditch on the north shoulder of Old Atlanta Highway, striking one tree with its front right fender, and another tree with its front end.

Collins has been charged with failure to maintain lane, use of safety belts in passenger vehicles, possession of open container in vehicle passenger area and driving under the influence.

Atlanta Medical Center declined to comment on Collins current condition.
