Job seekers invited to Expo

The Georgia Department of Labor’s (GDOL) Gwinnett Career Center and the Norcross Cooperative Ministries will sponsor the Seventh Annual CareerFest Expo from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. July 18 at the First United Methodist Church, 2500 Beaver Ruin Road, Norcross.

The expo will feature a number of employers, educational institutions and resource agencies to assist job seekers. Some employers will be hiring, while others will discuss possible future employment opportunities.

Other organizations will provide educational and other resources.

Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available job openings.

Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately to improve their opportunities for job openings.

The expo also will feature several workshops on resume-writing and other techniques used in a job search.

Althea Barnette, senior training consultant with GDOL, will present "What’s in Your Toolbox?" at 9:15 a.m. Those who attend this seminar will be the first allowed into the career expo.

Also, Eric Handler, an executive search consultant and job search expert from Handler & Associates, will present "Using LinkedIn To Speed Up The Job Search." Miriam Salpeter, of Keppie Careers, will conduct a session on "The Importance of Social Media in Job Search."

Tamika Condé, project director for AARP, will address issues facing job seekers over age 50.

Among those expected to participate in the event are A Friend of the Family Staffing, AFLAC, Allied Barton Security Service, AT&T, Atlanta Electrical Contractors, Avon, Bobby Dodd Organization, Comcast-Cable, CSR-Support, Farmers Insurance Group, Fastenal Co., Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Genuine Parts, Georgia Department of Driver Services, Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, Gwinnett County Public Schools-Transportation, Hire Dynamics, Legal Shield, Lowe’s Home Centers, Manpower, Millennium Security Services, Perimeter Staffing Placements, Resolute, Spectrum Staffing, Staffing Advantage, Super H-Mart, The Impact Group, TRC Staffing and the Vet Center in Lawrenceville.
