Human remains were discovered by a utility worker about 50 yards off of Highway 81 just south of Porterdale. The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) was at the scene by midmorning Thursday.
According to Sgt. Cortney Morrison, NSCO is working to identify the body.
“Right now, we’re investigating everything and pulling evidence surrounding the body,” she said.
The remains were found in a densely wooded area near a boarded up house at 2563 Highway 81, South, near State Route 162.
NCSO deputies obtained a search warrant for the house, but did not find anything.
The personal effects found at the scene were transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation by the coroner's office.
