NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. – Heavy rains closed Lower River Road near the Yellow River for a while Friday morning as water from a nearby creek made the road impassable. 

The rain also forced the Yellow River in parts of Porterdale’s Yellow River Park and Cedar Shoals Park out of its banks. Residents should get a chance to dry out this weekend as the National Weather Service is predicting sunny and clear for Saturday, Sunday and Monday, with temperatures getting into the 60s.
