Green Getaway raises funds for KCNB

Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful’s fourth annual fundraiser, the Green Getaway, had a good turn out Friday evening at Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center.

The event boasted a picnic-style dinner provided by Plain Nuts Catering, a live and silent auction and entertainment by Elvis impersonator Mark Eskew and his band.

Silent auction items included a variety of baskets with themes from children’s favorite superheroes to elegant holiday entertaining; 13 live auction items ranged from a visit from Santa to a long weekend mountain retreat.

Ticket sales and auction items netted approximately $20,700 for KCNB’s beautification and educational efforts. KCNB not only organizes community cleanup events and facilitates community plantings, but also produces puppet shows and learning labs to teach children about the environmental stewardship.
