Golfers from around the community gathered Friday at The Oaks Course for the second annual B.C Crowell Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament. The tournament helped raise funds for the two $1,000 scholarships which are awarded to students from Eastside, Alcovy and/or Newton high schools.
Put on by the Newton County Recreation Commission, the tournament was a four-person Lauderdale format. Crowell, who died last year after a long battle with diabetes, was a fixture in Newton County's athletic community. He was a regular visitor at the NCRC facility at Turner Lake and never missed a Dixie Youth baseball game.
The two scholarships are awarded to students who exemplify academics and community involvement in the county. The tournament aids in raising those funds but donations are also needed to make them possible. If you would like to donate to the scholarship fund, contact Kale Curtis at (770) 786-4373, ext. 17.
