U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Athens, is hosting a “Coffee with your Congressman” event at Square Perk Café in Covington at 8 a.m. Monday.

The congressman will have a question-and-answer session with the public. Coffee is provided by Broun's office and attendees are free to ask questions on any topic, spokeswoman Jane Burrell said.

Broun will also have a special presentation to honor Morgan Steward, the 5-year-old Newton County boy with spinal muscular atrophy, who was recently sworn in as a Covington police officer and had a special celebration on the square held in his honor.

Broun and fellow U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Lithonia, submitted Morgan’s story to the Congressional Record, the official record of the proceedings of the U.S. Congress.  Burrell said Broun read Morgan’s story Wednesday on the House floor, "so his statement on Morgan will always be on file with the Library of Congress."

“It is my honor to acknowledge Morgan Steward for his brave service to his community as a police officer,” Broun said in his submission to the Congressional Record. “I want to also commend this young man for setting the highest example of courageousness while facing such serious adversities. Those who know Morgan, recognize him for his constant smile and positive attitude. On behalf of the United States Congress, I commend young Officer Morgan for his service and thank him for the exceptional example he sets for all who face medical hardships.”
