Ten scholarships valued at $14,250 are available from the Georgia Farm Bureau to Newton County high school students who plan to major in agriculture, family and consumer science or a related agricultural field.

There are three scholarships available for $3,000 each, and seven $750 scholarships. Students are eligible to compete for the awards if they or a parent or guardian were members of the farm bureau as of Sept. 1.

Students must plan to attend a University of Georgia system school or Berry College in fall of 2011.

Interested parties can download an application from gfb.org, by rolling over the "FB Programs" header clicking on the "FB Women" tab in the drop down menu. Call (770) 786-7201 to learn more or to obtain an application.

Applications are due by Feb. 25, 2011 and must be approved and signed by the Farm Bureau president of the applicant’s county, before being submitted to the Georgia Farm Bureau home office.

Scholarship recipients will be announced in May 2011 and will be distributed in the summer of 2011.

The Georgia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company and the GFB Women’s Committee sponsor the scholarship program.
