GDOT awards $868,000 for SR 142 in Newton
$7 million project awards resurfacing several area highways

Newton County will receive more than $800,000 of the recently announced $7 million in resurfacing contracts awarded by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT).

More than three miles of State Route 142 from the CSX Railroad bridge to State Route 81 will receive milling, plant mix resurfacing, single surface treatment paving and shoulder rehabilitation.

Burke, Dodge and McDuffie counties will also benefit from the continued GDOT focus on preserving existing state highway infrastructure with resurfacing and maintenance. All projects have an expected September 2017 contract completion date.
The other DOT projects are:

• Burke County: Reeves Construction Company earned the $2.16 million job outside of Waynesboro to cover 10.051 miles of milling, inlay, plant mix resurfacing, single surface treatment paving and shoulder rehab on State Route (SR) 56 from north of the US 25 Bypass to SR 23;

• Dodge County: Everett Dykes Grassing Inc. will complete two companion contracts worth $2.69 million in Eastman for 7.918 miles of milling, inlay, plant mix resurfacing, single surface treatment paving and shoulder rehab on SR 87 from SR 27 to south of Tanner Drive and on 27 BU from SR 27 to SR 27;

• McDuffie County: E.R. Snell Contractor Inc. won the $1.19 million bid for 2.622 miles of milling, plant mix resurfacing, single surface treatment paving, and shoulder rehab on SR 17 from north of Interstate 20 to SR 43 in Thomson;
Since Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 began July 1, contracts have been awarded for resurfacing of 592 miles of interstates and state routes, representing an investment of over $184 million. In FY 16, the Department resurfaced 941 miles valued at $688 million.
