A fire close to Interstate 20 is again backing up traffic, this time affecting westbound traffic just east of Almon Road.
A reporter driving by said the fire appeard to be close to a house and was being fought by five fire trucks. According to Deputy Lt. Kevin O'Brien with Newton County Fire, the cause is unknown, but the brush fire was under control and firefighters, along with workers from Georgia Forestry were letting the fire burn out a bit.
There is a lot of smoke and the interstate is down to one lane at that area. The reporter said the heat can be felt while driving by, but noted that firefighters appeared to have the fire under control.
