A Dollar General employee so concerned about losing her job that she reportedly lied to law enforcement officers has been arrested and charged with falsely reporting a crime.
Kimberly Sue Fawcett, 41, called deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office Sunday morning to the Dollar General on Highway 81 where she worked. According to reports, Fawcett told deputies that she was taking the night deposit to her vehicle when "an unknown subject pushed her down to the ground from behind and took off with the deposit."
She reportedly told deputies that the person, who she claimed ran off in the direction of the old Pizza Inn, was wearing white tennis shoes and carrying a yellow Dollar General bag with the deposit (more than $3,000) inside. Deputies called the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) out to investigate the alleged robbery. However, once investigators started working the case, they determined that Fawcett wasn’t being exactly truthful about the "robbery."
Eventually, Fawcett admitted to making up the story that she was robbed, according to NCSO Public Information Officer Cortney Morrison.
Fawcett allegedly told investigators that the day before she had taken the deposit home – which is against company policy – and it was stolen out of her vehicle. She failed to report the theft and said she didn’t want to lose her job, so she lied.
Fawcett was arrested and taken to the Newton County Jail, where she was charged with false reporting of a crime, false swearing and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
