Superintendent accepting applications for 2018-19 student advisory council
Fuhrey
Samantha Fuhrey

Newton County School Superintendent Samantha Fuhrey is currently accepting applications for openings on her Student Advisory Council. The Council is comprised of seventh through 12th-grade students selected through an application process. At this time, there are currently eight vacancies in the seventh grade.

Students who wish to apply for the council should complete an essay packet and return it to Sherri Davis in the NCSS Department of Public Relations by Aug. 27. The address is 2109 Newton Drive NE, Covington, Georgia, 30014. In lieu of sending through U.S. Mail, students may ask their school principal to place their completed essay/application packet in the school interdepartmental mail system.

“It is extremely important that we reach out to our students to get their input on what we are doing right and what we can improve,” Fuhrey said. “I was very impressed with the work of the student advisory council last year, and I expect this year to be just as productive. I enjoy working with the students, and I look forward to meeting with them this year.”

The Student Advisory Council will meet with Superintendent Fuhrey throughout the school year to discuss how decisions made at the district level are affecting students throughout the county. Meetings will take place at the Newton County Board of Education and transportation to and from school will be provided. Student members will serve as advisors and act as liaisons between the Newton County School System administration and the students of NCSS.

Applications are available on the homepage of the NCSS website at www.newtoncountyschools.org.
