The West Newton Elementary dance program recently held its first Golden Catwalk Fashion Show at Liberty Middle School.

A crowd of more than 300 cheered and rose to their feet as the dance teams performed and future supermodels took the runway. More than 150 students and ten teachers sashayed, modeling outfits in categories such as trendy, sportswear, cultural and formal attire.

Dance team instructors KiTonya McCoy, Jessica Weaver and Chansley Wren expressed concern after viewing the judges' comments at last year's dance competition stating that the dance team needed to be in uniform. So they decided that a fashion show would be a great way to raise funds for the uniforms.

This year the dance team will not only compete to hold their championship title, but will also participate in the Covington and Conyers Christmas parades and the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade in Atlanta. They can also be seen during half-time at basketball games throughout Newton County. The team is seeking sponsors and community support
