The newly formed R.L. Cousins Alumni Association has "come out the gate running." The association made its debut appearance on March 14 with a meet and greet at the former R.L. Cousins school cafeteria.

Alumni President Chester Benton stated that the response from former students and teachers has been tremendous and "a lot of us have carried a desire to organize an alumni group for many, many years." The class of 1969 decided to "test the water" and out of that vision the alumni association became a reality. It has been said that "a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." The association is looking forward to a prosperous journey as they attempt to enhance educational opportunities and help to facilitate positive learning experiences for some students who may need a boost on their educational journeys.

According to Benton, "It is time for us to show the yield of return on the investment that was made in us as students of R.L. Cousins school. We have determined that our journey must begin with ‘one step back,’ so on Sunday, June 27 at 5 p.m. at Under the Stars Banquet Center, we will ‘step back’ and gather together our former school teachers, administrators and staff and say thank you for a job well done. "

An invitation is extended to the community and all R.L. Cousins students to come out in a show of support.

This event is being held in conjunction with the culmination of a membership drive for the association. The alumni association is asking all "Wolverines" to come prepared to sign up to join an organization that shows all the signs of being "fit for the journey."
